Operation Encompass passes 1,000

Last Wednesday Sheryll was pleased to join Plymouth MPs to note that more than 1,000 children had been helped by Operation Encompass which makes sure that schools are aware if the child has been the witness or victim of domestic violence the night before.  The initiative has been spearheaded by constituent and police officer Sgt David Carney-Haworth and covers both Plymouth and part of South East Cornwall. The event marking this milestone took place at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park ground.

Foodbank volunteers thanked

On Saturday local MP Sheryll Murray went to the storage and sorting area for the Saltash Foodbank to see for herself the operation and to thank the many volunteers who have created this valuable service.

‘Fantastic result’ as Tony Hogg is selected as PCC Candidate

South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray gave her full endorsement to the former Culdrose Chief, Tony Hogg describing his selection as the Conservative Candidate for the post of Police & Crime Commissioner as a “fantastic result”.  She said, “I have met Tony and a number of occasions and am pleased to give him my full endorsement as the best person to lead the police in Devon & Cornwall. Tony has the experience and the drive to make a real difference. I will be playing an active role in the campaign to ensure he is elected as I know what a difference he could make to policing in South East Cornwall.”

“Please Help” plea from local Foodbank

Local MP Sheryll Murray took time out from her busy schedule to join volunteers with food collection at the Co-op in Fore Street in Saltash for the local Foodbank.  In a statement Sheryll said, “Residents come to see me in my office and at surgeries who are in genuine need and the foodbank can give short term relief when it is most needed. I know how grateful they are for this assistance and would encourage anyone to help when they see a foodbank collection point. I would also like to thank the Co-op for allowing the foodbank to collect at their store. Without their, and other food stores, permission the fooodbank would not be able to operate in the way it does.” 

Double celebration for Torpoint Community College

Local MP Sheryll Murray was thrilled to go back to her old school on Friday to celebrate with them both the opening of the new sixth form common room and the College’s status as a licensed centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. 

Sheryll Murray MP ‘Animal Welfare Charity Champion’

Local MP Sheryll Murray said she was “honoured” to be given the ‘Animal Welfare Champion at last nights Dods Charity Champion Awards in the Speakers Apartments following her nomination by Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary near Looe. 

New Flag but New Leaders also needed

It was heavy rain and wind on the banks of Siblyback Lake but that did not dampen the spirits of the Liskeard 2nd Girl Guides as they were presented a new flag by local MP Sheryll Murray. It was the occasion of the Liskeard Old Cornwall Societies Mid Summers Eve Celtic Bonfire and it was this Society which had raised the money for the new flag.

Fuel Price reduction “a great victory for common sense”

Local MP Sheryll Murray said she was “thrilled” by the statement by the Chancellor that fuel would not go up by the planned 3p per litre.  Sheryll wrote to the Chancellor before the budget on the 11th March giving her misgivings about planned fuel increases stating, “The car is not just a luxury, for many people in rural areas like South East Cornwall, it is a necessity. In rural areas such as ours many cannot just nip round the corner to the local shop, cannot expect our children to walk to school or jump on a bus to work.”

Conservative Police Commissioner Primaries

Devon and Cornwall Conservatives have selected their three candidates who will contest the selection of the Conservative candidate for the Police and Crime Commissioner elections in November, at three Primaries across the area.  The three candidates are Paul Biddle, Alison Hernandez and Tony Hogg.
