Local MP Sheryll Murray has met with the Minister responsible for dealing with flooding, Richard Benyon MP to discuss the devastating effect it is having on the lives of constituents.
Sheryll explained, "South East Cornwall has suffered more than its fair share of flooding and I wanted to ensure that the Minister and the government where fully briefed on the situation and to ask him to come down to see the damage caused himself.
"I have personally visited as many of the communities affected as I can and have seen first hand the devastation both to people's property and their lives. Transport links have been especially badly hit and this causes people to be cut off and in many cases their livelihoods affected. In these tough economic times, where businesses are struggling, a sudden drop in customers can create a substantial impact even where the business is not flooded itself.
"I will continue to do all I can for the victims of the floods and would like to pay tribute to all those who have worked so hard both in immediate response and longer term support. I would particularly like to thank all the local Councillors who have done so much including Cllrs Galipeau, Toms, Shakerley, Trubody and Pugh."
Richard Benyon said, "I recognise the impact these floods have had on this part of Cornwall. I know the difficulties facing local residents and I want to make sure the government is doing all it can to help this local community recover."
