Sheryll Murray, along with the other five MPs from Cornwall, met with the Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron, to discuss the issue of keeping the Duchy boundary in the next boundaries review. In the past the Parliamentary boundaries have been done on county basis but the new Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill means that borders can now be crossed.
Following the meeting Sheryll Murray MP said in a statement, “I have been assured that the Government will do all it can to ensure that we have a debate about the issue at the report stage. They realise that it was very disappointing to have the Labour Party talking out the time on other clauses disallowing Cornwall’s six MPs to make their case on the floor of the chamber. The MPs from Cornwall will now work together to table an amendment to try to safeguard our border.”
