Local Member of Parliament Sheryll Murray was pleased to meet and see for herself the excellent facilities available for local people at Greenbank Community Church in Greenbank Road in Liskeard.
Sheryll first visited Greenbank Community Church before the last election with then Shadow Minister for Cornwall Mark Prisk MP. They heard about plans to renovate some very run down out buildings to provide a community cafe and other facilities for Community use. Sheryll returned on 16 August 2012 to see the finished project.
Sheryll said, "Mark and Monique Russell and the Greenbank Community Church Team have worked so hard and have transformed the run down buildings into a wonderful Cafe Connect. This is a superb place to pop in for a coffee and chat or for a game of pool. The cafe is available to hire for private functions.”
During her visit Sheryll also met with the young at heart programme which gives carers much needed respite whilst people with memory problems through dementia or strokes are cared for in a safe environment. Various therapies are planned. Activities they are offering include; Music therapy, Pet Therapy, Quizzes, Dance, IT instruction, Scrabble, films and they also have a Wii to enjoy various games.
Sheryll said, “I was delighted to visit this fantastic facility and it was really good to know that the users are able to stay for dinner, giving carers much needed time for themselves.
Sheryll continued, "I think the wet room which can be used to provide a shower with qualified people on hand and also the future plans for a carers group are a great benefit to the community in Liskeard and I pay tribute to Mark and Monique Russell and everyone at Greenbank Community Church for all of their hard work."
