Sheryll Murray MP welcomes the restoration of resident lifeguards, albeit in temporary accommodation, at Tregonhawke Beach. Sheryll joined the RNLI personnel to erect a temporary Gazebo on the beach below the “mean high water line” in order that full lifeguard services could be restored to this very popular and busy beach in Whitsand Bay.
Following the visit to the beach on Thursday morning Sheryll said, “There were two serious injuries to children at Tregonhawke beach last weekend and it was essential that first aid facilities in addition to rescue services were restored. The RNLI have been working very hard over several months to negotiate the terms of a new lease with the TCCOA (Tregonhawke Cliff Chalet Owners Association) but no agreement has yet been reached. The temporary arrangements, whilst not ideal, will ensure that continuous lifeguard cover can be provided.”
Sheryll would like to thank the owner of the Eddystone Cafe, the RNLI and Cornwall Council for working together to ensure beach users enjoy the reassurance that lifeguards are on hand.
Sheryll continued, “I really hope that the Chalet Owners and the RNLI will now be able to reach a conclusion regarding the new lease for the Whitsand Bay Lifesaving Building. I tried to convene a meeting of all parties to reach a satisfactory conclusion in June of this year but the TCCOA did not feel they could attend. My offer still stands if all parties feel this would be helpful. The safety of beach users is my priority.”
