Sheryll Murray MP has welcomed the news that the Claimant count for unemployment benefit has more than halved in South East Cornwall since 2010. Official figures show a 52% drop or 660 claimants against 1,386 in 2010.
Nationally the Office of National Statistics this week published a set of record-breaking figures showing more people in work than ever before and unemployment falling to its lowest in 12 years. Overall there are 106,000 fewer unemployed people than this time last year and long-term unemployment is at its lowest since before the 2008 recession.
On hearing the figures Sheryll said, “This is great news for local people in South East Cornwall. I would like to congratulate all those who have managed to find work. There is clearly more work to do and I am pressing the Government to see what more can be done to help those who are still finding it difficult to find employment.”
