Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall, this week met with Senara Higgs and a number of other people involved in animal welfare to discuss TB. Sheryll listened as concerns were raised about the overspill of Bovine TB to other mammals like pigs, sheep, cats, dogs and Alpacas.
Sheryll, who has raised the issue of TB with Jim Paice MP, Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said following the meeting, “Bovine TB is an infectious disease of cattle. It is caused by the bacterium M. bovis, which can also infect and cause TB in badgers, deer, goats, pigs, camelids (llamas and alpacas), dogs and cats, as well as many other mammals. I feel people should be made aware of the impact that the overspill of TB has on all mammals and the devastating consequences it has on businesses and animal lovers alike.”
After the meeting Sheryll was taken on a tour of Senara’s farm which is also a successful holiday business. Sheryll met Bonnie and Little Man who are two of Senara’s Alpacas along with a number of other animals on the farm including Pigs, sheep and a 1 week old shire horse foal who was the newest addition of four generations now on the farm.
