Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall, was pleased to join Bishop Tim Thornton from Truro at Saint Saviour Church, Polruan at a service to celebrate the Church’s 125th year on Sunday.
St Saviour Church, Polruan will be celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the Church in 1891 with a year-long Festival of events. The 125 Festival was opened by the Rt Rev’d Tim Thornton, the Lord Bishop of Truro at the service. The service was followed by the cutting of a celebration cake.
The ruin of the original 8th Century St Saviour Church still stands at the top of Polruan Hill. The name is perpetuated in the current St Saviour Church which was built as a chapel-of-ease of the Parish Church in 1891 at the heart of the village at the cost of £1,400.
Following the service Sheryll said, “I would like to congratulate St Saviour Church in Polruan on its 125th Anniversary. I was very pleased to join them on Sunday with Bishop Tim from Truro. The many churches in my constituency play such an important role in our communities and I would like to wish them the very best for the next 125 years.”
