Sheryll Murray MP has met with the Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, Greg Barker MP, to discuss plans for the future of Solar Energy in Cornwall.
Changes to the original plans set out by the previous Government due to applications from large scale Solar Farms. The Minister explained, “We are absolutely committed to solar PV and to the widest range of domestic and community-scale renewables, but the fact is that we inherited a system that simply failed to anticipate industrial-scale, stand-alone, greenfield solar, and, although we will not act retrospectively, large field-based developments should not be allowed to distort the available funding for roof-based PV, other PV and other types of renewables.”.
Following her meeting Sheryll said, “I feel that renewable energy is an important aspect of the Cornish economy as long as it is carried out in a way that is sympathetic to the local environment. I am also aware that Cornwall Council had its own plans. Both the Minister and I were keen the dialogue be maintained between the Council and the government. Because of this we have arranged for Tim German, the Renewable Energy & Partnerships Manager of the Green Cornwall Programme to meet with Rachel Solomon-Williams, who heads up the Feed in Tariffs for the Department of Energy & Climate Change.”
