Local MP Sheryll Murray has been voted to Chair the All Party Parliamentary Fisheries Group by her fellow MPs.
The purpose of the group is to promote and support the UK fishing industry in Parliament.
In a statement Sheryll said, “I am pleased to be elected Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fisheries and am hoping the Group will undertake some reports on various fisheries issues. I am pleased that the group has elected Vice Chairmen from Labour, Liberal Democrat, SNP and SDLP parties and look forward to working together to get the best for our fishermen.
“I would like to pay tribute to Austin Mitchell who was Chairman of the Group for so many years. Indeed, I attended many meetings of the Group myself as an Industry representative since 1991.”
Sheryll’s experience in this field includes:
-A fisherman’s wife, very involved in the running of the business.
-Secretary of the Looe Fishermen’s Protection Society.
-Director of the Fishermen’s Association Ltd.
-Chairman of a Fish Producer Organisation involving all aspects of quota management.
-Secretary of the Plymouth Sea Safety Group.
-Represented the UK at EU meetings on Fishing Safety and women in fisheries conferences.
-Member of the Seafish Training Board Southwest.
-Member of Cornwall Sea Fisheries Committee.
-Member of the Fishing Industry Safety Group.
-Associate of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea fishermen.
-Taken part in reports on Fishing in the EFRA Select Committee
-Served as Vice Chair on the All-Party Parliamentary Fisheries Group
