Sheryll Murray MP visited with Mr Richard Bower MBE to discuss and find out more about his impressive Jute Bag collection.
Over the course of three years, Mr Bower produced and sold tens of thousands of Jute Bags to companies throughout Cornwall, further afield across the United Kingdom and even to a company in Nigeria. The bags included Terry Wogan’s ‘I’m a TOG’ bag and carriers for Rick Stein’s restaurants and business in Padstow.
Mr Bower, who used to work for the Environment Agency, is a determined supporter of the dropping of plastic carrier bags in supermarkets, clothing stores and your local corner shop, instead he would like to promote the use and reuse of Jute Bags.
Now, Mr Bower is facing retirement with his extensive collection of hundreds of Jute Bags in his basement and is on the search for anyone who can use these bags for exhibitions, backdrops to exhibitions or even art – providing they are used in line with Mr Bower’s strong beliefs of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Mrs Murray MP said “after seeing the quantity of these fantastic Jute Bags which even travelled to other countries, I think it would provide a superb focus for any community group who wanted to stage an environmentally friendly project and I urge people who are interested to contact my office in order that we can forward that interest to Mr Bower.”
If anyone has any ideas for the use of the impressive collection, please call Sheryll Murray MP’s constituency office on 01579 344428.
