Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to join her colleague Rob Wilson MP in his position as Minister for Civil Society for a visit to Passmore Edwards Court and to the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO) in Fore Street last week.
At Passmore Edwards Court, Sheryll and the Minister attended a coffee morning to meet some of the Age UK staff and volunteers involved in delivering the ‘Living Well’ programme across Cornwall and also some of the beneficiaries of the programme. The Living Well Programme seeks to help people build self-confidence and self-reliance by providing practical support, navigation and co-ordination. The support is provided by teams comprising people from the voluntary sector, district nurses, GPs, community matrons and social workers, to provide wrap-around support targeted at those most at risk of increased dependency and hospitalisation.
The Real Ideas Organisation is a pioneering social enterprise that works across Plymouth and Cornwall (as well as nationally and internationally) and uses creative solutions to encourage social enterprise creation. The RIO Centre in Fore Street was opened by Liskeard Mayor, Phil Seeva, in November 2014.
Following the Ministers visit Sheryll commented, “I would like to thank the Minister for coming down to Liskeard to see for himself just some of the fantastic work that goes on across South East Cornwall. We have so many people who work on projects which help others. I would like to join the Minister in thanking these people, many who do it on a voluntary basis, for all the work they do in improving the lives of others.”
