Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to attend Armed Forces Day in Plymouth Hoe on Saturday paying tribute to our services. Thousands of people across the UK celebrated the men and women of the Armed Forces community, past and present, at hundreds of events to mark the sixth annual Armed Forces Day.
Sheryll explained, “On Saturday, I attended the Armed Forces Day Service on Plymouth Hoe. The day began with The RAF and Allied Air Force 25th Anniversary Memorial Service and was supported by the Central Band of the RAF. I was delighted to see so many representatives from allied nations lay wreaths. South East Cornwall was well represented with both Cllr Mike Pearn, Mayor of Torpoint, and Cllr Jean Dent, Mayor of Saltash, both laying wreaths.
“It was good to meet Royal Navy personnel from the Submarine School at HMS Raleigh on their stand. The Royal Navy was well represented with a Merlin helicopter from RNAS Culdrose taking pride of place on the Hoe.
“On entering the Veterans Village I met with many of my constituents from various places throughout my Constituency who where representing organisations relating to the armed forces. This demonstrates to me how important our Armed Forces are to South East Cornwall. It also highlights the importance that Devonport Naval Base and Dockyard has on the economy of South East Cornwall. I was pleased to have a chat with DDRC Healthcare formerly known as the Diving Diseases Research Centre which is a charity specialising in Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine, Medical Treatment, Research and Training.”
