Sheryll Murray MP was pleased to join a number of other MPs, the Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLaughlin and the PM David Cameron at the re-opening of the main line to South East Cornwall in Dawlish earlier today.
Along with the Parliamentarians were many of the workers, dubbed ‘orange men’ because of their safety clothing. Many of them had worked long hours to ensure that the line was repaired in a very quick time and particularly in time for Easter.
In a statement Sheryll said, “When I saw what happened to the line during the terrible storms I was very concerned by the effect it would have on trade in the area. I, along with many of my colleagues, raised the matter at the highest levels and I am pleased that the government pulled out all the stops to get this line repaired for the Easter holidays.
“The true heroes of the piece are the men and women who worked all hours to get this line open again. I understand that they finished in the early hours of the morning handing the line back over only minutes before the first train. They went above and beyond to ensure that the Easter holidaymakers which are so vital to so many businesses across Cornwall, could get to their destination.
“I would like to thank the government for their fast action and all the workers who did such a fantastic job.”
