On Wednesday Sheryll Murray MP visited Porfell Wildlife Park and Sanctuary to listen to their concerns over the lack of tourists visiting the Park. The park relies on visitors to provide a safe haven for elderly and problem exotic animals for the rest of their lives and is recognised nationally by zoos, wildlife parks and other organisations.
The afternoon began with a tour around the site, which cares for a huge variety of creatures, from donkeys to leamurs. A particular highlight of the tour was the Maasai Village and African Plain, a labour of love for park owner John and park manager Wendy Winstanley. Sheryll found the whole experience of the Maasai Village very educative and said, “I believe that school trips to the park should be encouraged, so that children can see how others in the world live, without the technology or the conveniences that we enjoy here”.
John said “it is part of the park’s ethos that there should be more than meets the eye with this park, so that our visitors go away pleasantly surprised and satisfied”
Following her visit Sheryll said, “The work Porfell undertakes is incredibly important to the animals and I found my visit both enjoyable and informative. I would like to encourage everyone to make a trip to the park, not only to support the animals, but to have a great day out too.”
