Local MP Sheryll Murray joined a meeting of around 100 people in the tourism industry through their local organisations of South East Cornwall Tourism Association (SECTA), the Tamar Valley Tourism Association (TAVATA), the Best of Bodmin Moor group, the Gateway to Cornwall group and Visit Cornwall at the Lord Eliot Hotel in Liskeard.
Sheryll gave an update to the members on the transport situation following an update she had received from the Secretary of State for Transport the day before. She also reported on some of the work she had been undertaking to promote Cornwall and in particular to get the message across the message that Cornwall is open for business. Following this Sheryll took a large number of questions from the floor covering a very diverse range of topics including council planning and foreign aid.
Following the meeting Sheryll said, “I would like to thank the local tourism organisations for all the work they do promoting South East Cornwall and for organising a very useful meeting. It was fantastic to hear first hand the experience from the front line in the tourism industry. There is no doubt in my mind that the recent spate of bad weather has adversely affected this big employer in the constituency. I will be taking this information to parliament to ensure all that can be done will be done to protect these important jobs.”
