Sheryll Murray, MP for South East Cornwall, yesterday visited the Tic Tac centre near Liskeard Community school to learn more about the work they undertake and the funding issues they face.
The Tic Tac Centre is a teenage health information and advice drop-in centre which is open to all students of Liskeard School and Community College Monday-Thursday from 11am until 2pm. Students can also make special arrangements to see a counsellor or health professional at other times if they wish, no appointment required.
After her visit Sheryll commented, “I was really impressed by the centre and all the work it does. It allows young people who attend Liskeard Community School to discuss the issues which are concerning them be it problems at home, at school or health related matters. Everyone has issues at sometime growing up and it’s fantastic it have a centre like this to deal with them.”
The service has been EEFO Approved which means it has been validated as meeting the EEFO Quality Standards and is therefore providing a ’young person friendly’ service.
Sheryll continued, “By helping children deal and learn about their circumstances now will often help them deal with their situation meaning that they avoid leaning on substance abuse or committing crime. However funding for such an excellent centre is always an issue and I would like to thank the Primary Care Trust, the Town Council, The Rotary and the many other local bodies and individuals who have helped the centre in the past. This really is the Big Society in action. If you think you can help please contact them direct at Tictac, The Bungalow, c/o Liskeard School and Community College Grounds, Luxtowe, Liskeard, PL14 3DY or telephone 01579 343922 or email: liskeardtictac@aol.com”
