Sheryll joined postman Liam on his round in Saltash on Thursday to gain an insight into what’s involved in getting the millions of parcels and letters delivered to the residents of Cornwall each year. Following a few complaints from local residents of missing post Sheryll wanted to see the whole process from the sorting office to the delivery round.
Sheryll said, “I was keen to see for myself the challenges faced by our postmen and women particularly as the Post Office undertakes modernisation in a bid to increase efficiency. We have also seen a change in the type of delivery with a massive increase in the delivery of parcels thanks to internet shops and a reduction in letters thanks to email. After 5 ½ miles and 4 hours I have every respect for the men and women who walk their routes in all weathers to deliver our mail. A special thanks to Liam who allowed me to walk his route with him.
Sheryll continued, “I was really impressed by the commitment and hard work that our local Postmen and women put in to ensuring every letter and parcel reaches its destination. They know what an important function they provide for our communities and can often be a lifeline to those less mobile in our society. We should be really proud of our Postal workers who strive for 100% delivery in a timely fashion.”
