Sheryll Murray MP visited pupils at Upton Cross Primary School to talk to the year 5/6 pupils about democracy and being an MP. Sheryll spoke about what was involved in the role of an MP and how the election process works. Sheryll met with the students and after talking to them she took questions.
Afterwards Sheryll went up onto the school field to see one of their energy saving projects in action, which has made Upton Cross Primary School a certified Eco School. Upton Cross was the first school in Cornwall to have a wind turbine. They also have solar panels which combined takes 1/3 off their electricity bills so it is not only good for the environment but also for the school budget.
Sheryll commented on “The pupils in depth questioning about elections and the work of Parliament was of a very high standard which certainly tested my own knowledge of Parliament. They are a credit to the school and their parents. It is always lovely to be invited to a school and I would like thank them for their invitation and for their hospitality.”
