Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to join Callington Rotary Club on Friday night for a Barn Dance near Hatt to help raise money for Mercy Ships who run a hospital ship providing free lifesaving surgeries for people where medical care is nearly non-existent.
During the evening a cheque for £1,000 was presented to a representative from Mercy Ships to assist with their work. They are a team of nurses, doctors, surgeons, and other crew members from all over the world, donating their time to help on board the world’s largest non-governmental floating hospital. They sail directly to some of the world’s poorest people to deliver life-saving medical care and provide safe, state-of-the-art facilities in which to treat them.
Following the event Sheryll said, “It was good to meet up with many friends at the Callington Rotary Club and to do it for such a good cause. I learnt a lot about the good work that the Mercy Ship undertakes and had a very enjoyable night and the hog roast was delicious.”
Sheryll is an honorary member of a local Rotarian group.
