Sheryll Murray MP was delighted to be invited to present a long service medal award to volunteer Jan Daly who has given 10 years of dedicated service with the WRVS. The service uses the local library to provide a home delivery service of books and other library services to people who are unable to visit.
Sheryll praised the “unsung heroes” of the WRVS saying, “It is a vital lifeline to many knowing that someone will be popping in to see them. If anyone has a few hours a week to spare and wants to make a difference to someone’s life please contact the WRVS.”
The WRVS, which until 2004 was the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service when it was recognised many volunteers were men, provides a wide range services across the country. The army of 40,000 volunteers offers services such as trips out, home assistance, social events, hospital visits and community support.
Sheryll said after the event, “The WRVS does such fantastic work across such a wide range of services that it really is one of the backbones of what politicians sometime call the big society. I would really like to thank all the volunteers and on this occasion single out Jan Daly who has given such a great service to the community. An award well deserved.”
