Sheryll Murray MP is writing to the Secretary of State for Education, Rt Hon Michael Gove, to emphasise the need for more recognition of Design and Technology in the school curriculum.
On a visit to the Saltash.net school Sheryll met with Mr R J Blackwell MBE, a teacher at the school, to listen and see for herself the excellent work carried out by the students. The school has a long history in the Design and Technology field going back 25 years when it was the first school in East Cornwall to benefit from the Technology School initiative. Sheryll discussed many aspects of the subject including the effect of Academy status and the Baccalaureate.
After her visit Sheryll commented, “It was a fascinating visit to the school and I was particularly impressed by the high quality of work undertaken by the students which reflects so highly on the teachers who obviously care so highly about their subject. I was particularly interested in the academic rigor involved in this subject and am encouraging the Secretary of State to take notice of this.”
