South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray was proud to officially open the new £2 million Health Centre in Torpoint. Sheryll worked for the practice which now operates from the centre for over 20 years and knew well the challenges they faced before the new facilities were built.
Dr Paul McEleny, the lead Doctor at the surgery, thanked Sheryll for her involvement in securing the funding for the centre.
In a statement Sheryll said, “I’m delighted to be here today to officially open Penntorr Health. Having previously worked in the NHS for over 20 years, I understand the need to improve local access to health services and speaking to staff and patients today it is already clear to see the impact that Penntorr Health is having. This is a fantastic investment in and shows this government’s commitment to the NHS.”
At the official opening Sheryll fixed a plaque to the wall. The plaque read, “This plaque commemorates the official opening of Penntorr Health by Sheryll Murray MP on 19th March 2015. Dedicated to providing excellent healthcare facilities to local communities.”
As well as becoming the new home for the Rame Group GP practice and Hooper Street Health Clinic, the centre also boasts a minor surgery unit, district nursing and health visitors, speech therapy, an Ambulance Trust dispatch room, pharmacy and minor surgery unit as well as a wealth of standard, training and enhanced medical services.
