Local MP Sheryll Murray joined Ed Buckingham, the Saltash postman who recently climbed Everest, and Deputy Mayor Martin Gee to open the new climbing wall at the K3 Centre at Saltash College on Church Road following a grant from the Lottery.
The grant of over £50,000 was allocated to the project from the Lottery’s Jubilee People's Millions following a television vote earlier in the year. The facility for ages 5-95 is to encourage more people to take up the sport and encourage healthy activity. The wall itself has six main climbs with ropes for safety and there is also two walls which can be used to try traversing.
At the event all three guests took to the ropes to climb the wall. In a statement afterwards Sheryll said, “I had a great time climbing the wall and I would strongly encourage as many others, regardless of age, to try it for themselves too. You never know where you may end up.
“I was really pleased such a substantial lottery grant has come to South East Cornwall to create this worthwhile investment. I would really like to thank the fantastic team who got this bid together and am so pleased their vision has come to pass.”
