When local MP Sheryll Murray received a call saying the Navy needed help she was keen to do so. However on this occasion it certainly was not dangerous or indeed difficult as Sheryll was helping the Naval Service Culinary Arts Team (NSCAT) practice for the Armed Forces Catering Competition when the team will be up against chefs and stewards from the RAF and the Army.
The competition takes place between 14 and 16 October at Shrivenham. The Navy team is made up of Royal Navy chefs and stewards, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel. Many of them have been honing their skills at the Defence Maritime Logistics School at HMS Raleigh. The five chefs who are taking part in the Parade De Chef competition have six hours to cook and prepare a three course meal for 80 people, seated on 10 tables of 8 and served at 10 minute intervals.
Following the event Sheryll said, “I am not sure what the judges will say but I thought the food was fantastic. I wish the team the very best of luck in the competition. I was pleased that my diary allowed me to go and assist them practice their skills. I would also like to thank my fellow diners for their fantastic company.”
