Sheryll Murray MP was pleased to meet with 16 and 17 year olds who were undertaking National Citizen Service which lets them take part in social action projects and build skills for work and life. Sheryll met them at Liskeard School and Community College.
National Citizen Service brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication. Participants develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.
The group Sheryll met spoke how the course had helped them to make new friends and become less shy. In particular they highlighted the residential aspect of the course which had given them more independence. They explained how they had managed to raise over £600 to complete work on a play park in Liskeard and were hoping to get two new swings and repaint the current facilities. They thanked many local shops for their donations in particular B&M who had been very generous.
Following the presentation Sheryll said, “I am so pleased that this Government scheme is helping so many young people and would like to congratulate them on their efforts. I know it will be a great addition to their CV.”
