On Thursday Sheryll Murray MP visited the China Fleet Club to meet with two apprentices as part of National Apprenticeship Week. The apprenticeships are working in part with Cornwall College and Duchy College to support a range of apprenticeships with every type of course.
Mrs Murray first met with Julie Stone who is currently working for her AAT Accountancy Apprenticeship. Sheryll said, “I think it’s really good that someone can take this path into accountancy if they want to progress it rather than go down the university or chartered account route.”
Julie has recently won an ‘Excellence in Business Training’ Award for her apprenticeship and is currently working on her level three apprenticeship.
With the Government increasing the number of apprentices in many different sectors, young people are becoming more aware of a different route in to their careers. Charlie Blatchford has recently finished his level two for his apprenticeship in Greenkeeping and is hoping to start his level three shortly.
Mrs Murray continued, “In regards to the green keeping I think it’s phenomenal that we have youngsters not only learning how to do things but why we do it and I think it’s a real tribute to the China Fleet Club working with Cornwall College and Duchy College and that young people in the South West are able to take advantage of what I call real old fashion apprenticeships.”
