Broadband is a real issue in many parts of my constituency. With this in mind, I wrote and asked Matthew Hancock MP Minister for the Digital and Culture, how my constituents could check their broadband speed and what alternative connectivity options were available to them. I am pleased to share his response. He said:
“I would recommend to my constituents the Ofcom app, which collates such data and feeds into national policy making. More information can be found at: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/coverage/ofcom-mobile-research-app
“I would also recommend to you the Better Broadband Voucher Scheme for those not getting connections of 2 Mbps. Further information is available on http://www.superfastcornwall.org/satellite
“Your constituents may wish to consider some alternative routes to improved connectivity. Community-led schemes are an increasingly popular option; more information on the various models is available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/community-led-broadband-schemes/introduction-to-community-led-schemes
“Superfast Cornwall have a list of suppliers at:

“These community schemes can be a good way to expedite infrastructure upgrades and improve the lives of people in the local area. I hope that this information is of interest to you and your constituents.”
I continue to fight for better broadband for South East Cornwall and particularly where it is barely available. I would continue to urge anyone having a particular issue to contact my office on 01579 344428.
