Local MP Sheryll Murray attended a service held by the Looe Branch of the Royal British Legion on Saturday.
The service was held to commemorate Pte Richard Yeo of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and to unveil a new headstone supplied by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Sheryll Murray MP said, "I am pleased that over 100 years after Pte Yeo’s death he has finally received the recognition he deserved by giving his life for our country. It was lovely to see so many people from the town come and pay their respects to him despite the weather."
Pte Richard Yeo was wounded in France in 1915, he was discharged due to his injuries and later died as a result of them. As he was discharged from the Army before his death he was not listed as one of Britain’s War Dead, although his name has been included on the Looe War Memorial.
Once he was officially listed as a war casualty, along with his family, the Looe RBL petitioned the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a headstone for his grave.
