Local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to welcome her colleague, Penny Morduant MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government, to Liskeard yesterday. Penny was doing the tour to learn the issues facing the country following her appointment to the role in last months reshuffle.
Firstly Penny and Sheryll met with members of Liskeard’s town team. She learnt about the initiative for refunds on car parking through traders, a website promoting the town and visited local traders to hear first hand their concerns.
Following this Sheryll & Penny went to lunch with a number of Councillors and heard from the issues facing other areas of the constituency. She heard about the issues facing Saltash from Cllr Gloria Challen, Lostwithiel from Cllr Benedicte Bay and the more rural Menheniot from Cllr Bernie Ellis.
Lastly Sheryll & Penny visited the planned new ‘Tri-service’ hub planned for emergency services in Liskeard. There they met with fire and ambulance personnel to hear about the plans and their concerns.
Following the visit Sheryll said, “I would like to thank Penny for coming to see us. It shows her commitment to her new role that she is keen to come to areas such as South East Cornwall to hear first hand the issues facing us. This will help when I raise issues in Parliament because Penny will have a good idea of the issues facing us locally.”
