Sheryll Murray MP and Ashley Fox MEP met with a number of fishermen recently at the harbour masters office in Looe to discuss a number of significant issues including the forthcoming review of the Common Fisheries Policy, the consultation document about changes to the quota management arrangements for under 10m vessels, the changes to the coastguard service and high fuel prices.
Speaking after the meeting Sheryll said, "I am grateful to Ashley who has promised to investigate the concerns of our European partners in relation to the coastguard changes. This is particularly relevant to cross Channel communication when incidents occur like the grounding of MSC Napoli.”
Following the death of her fisherman husband Neil at sea, Sheryll was keen to affirm her continuing support for those in the fishing industry by saying, “The next weeks, months and years are going to be very important for the fishing community in Looe, I am determined to make sure I represent them, with the same conviction as I have in the past."
