Sheryll Murray, Member of Parliament for South East Cornwall, was welcomed to a care home by Pat, a resident who recently attended one of Sheryll’s regular advice surgeries. Pendean Court specialises in hearing loss and speech impairment as well as physical disabilities.
Pat escorted Sheryll around the home, showing that they are able to bring their own furnishings, helping them to live their lives as independently as possible. There are communal areas, including a kitchen, living room and dining room and residents have full access to the gardens. It is also close to the town centre so residents are able to go shopping if they wish.
Pendean Court is run by Action on Hearing Loss, a charity which provides specialist care for people with hearing impairment, speech impairment, physical disability and sensory impairment. All staff has a minimum of British Sign Language level 1 and are passionate about their work, for example they all rallied round at Christmas to ensure that the residents had an enjoyable festive period.
After her visit Sheryll said, “I was pleased at the quality of the facilities and how each resident was able to have an independent way of life. I commend Action for Hearing Loss on all the hard work they do, both here and throughout the country.”
