Local campaigner Robert Arnold met Sheryll Murray MP at one of her regular Surgeries in Liskeard. Mr Arnold explained how shocked he was by the number of plastic bottles on the local beaches in South East Cornwall. Mr Arnold then decided to take matters into his own hands and clean up the plastic himself.
Sheryll who works closely with DEFRA said “Cornish coastlines are some of the most beautiful in the world; I myself have taken part in beach cleans in this area in the past and was stunned by how much plastic is being washed up on our shores”.
Sheryll Murray MP was shown the 1,500 plastic bottles Mr Arnold was able to clean up from three small coves, only accessible at low tide, between Downderry and Portwrinkle on the Rame Peninsula.
Mr Arnold met his local MP to raise the profile of his campaign and demonstrate just how environmentally damaging plastic bottles can be. Mr Arnold said on his Facebook page, “Big thank you to Sheryll Murray M.P. for our very positive meeting today and offering her support.”
