Local MP Sheryll Murray has been in communication with the NHS over the news that the ward at St Barnabas in Saltash had closed.
Sheryll explained, “I was very concerned to hear, so soon after the sustainability and transformation plan was discussed in Saltash Town Hall, that this closure had taken place. I wanted to ensure that this was not going to lead to permanent closure and that it was purely a short term staffing issue. They confirmed this was the case.
“They have been very clear that the current staffing needs are for 3 staff nurses (band 5), 2 Ward Managers (Sister Band 7) and a Physiotherapist (Band 6). I would urge anyone qualified to apply to fill these posts so we can get this ward open again as soon as possible.
“I have had confirmation that outpatient services at St Barnabas will be maintained. The confirmation is that there will be an Ear Nose & Throat Clinic, Continence Clinic, Colorectal Clinic, Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic, Eye Clinic, Gastro Clinic, Ultrasound clinics, Psychology Clinics and Speech & language Clinic.
“I am keen to see services maintained at Saltash and have asked the NHS to look at what other services can be located in Saltash to maintain a significant service in the town.”
