Young Author Ava Munro, from St Nicolas’ School in Downderry, met with Sheryll Murray MP to discuss her work. Ava, who is 11, suffers from a severe form of Dyslexia and is the sixth pupil to be published through the Cornwall Dyslexia Service Book Writing Project.
Ava’s book, ‘A mug of imagination’, is a collection of poems and other writing and features illustrations by fellow pupils and photography by parent Antony Butler.
Ava explained, “It was so much fun writing this book because there were no boundaries. I enjoyed working with my class and being able to choose what went in the book. I chose poetry and creative writing because I LOVE words. I love writing poetry because I don't have to think about the rules because there are no rules. Before knowing I was dyslexic I had a hard time doing literacy and did not feel equal. I don't feel like that anymore.”
Sheryll commented, “I would like to congratulate Ava for her brilliant work. A mug of imagination is a good mix of words and illustration keeping the reader interested. Thanks must go to all those who made this project happen including the School, the Teachers, Cornwall Council's Dyslexia Service and of course all the other pupils who helped out. I hope that this book will be well read and an inspiration to all those suffering from Dyslexia.”
