Local MP Sheryll Murray today visited the 68 room Saltash Travelodge which recently received a £350,000 make-over which includes a new modern room design which has been created by customers, and features a luxurious king-size bed called the Travelodge Dreamer Bed which is normally found in luxury hotels.
Sheryll met with Travelodge staff who explained the makeover was part of a £57 million nationwide programme that the company is currently undertaking. By autumn this year over 80% of Travelodge hotels will incorporate its new modern look as seen at Saltash.
Following her visit Sheryll said, “I would like to thank Travelodge for taking the time to show me their hotel and to raise with me the issues that matter to their business as a local employer. I was pleased to hear that the hotel’s bookings where up this year and particularly that they were seeing more trade in the off season following their investment. They raised a number of important issues with me in particular that they would like to see the reinstatement of a Minister with a solely tourism brief. I am keen to see this in Parliament as this is a sector which employs so many across my constituency.”
Ellie Vine, Hotel Manager, said: “I was thrilled to welcome our local MP Sheryll Murray to our newly refurbished hotel. Mrs Murray enjoyed meeting the team and listening to their experiences on how they had gained employment and successfully climbed the career ladder at Travelodge. It was great to discuss ways of how we can boost tourism with Mrs Murray, and to demonstrate the impact that our industry has on people’s lives in terms of developing long term careers, much like I have. Mrs Murray is clearly a massive advocate for the industry.”
