Young Farmers asked for input as local MP is elected to EFRA Committee

Following her election to the select committee for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to attend the Callington Young Farmers Annual Dinner Dance.  The election to the Committee was held following the promotion of colleague Amber Rudd MP who became the Private Parliamentary Secretary to George Osborne MP. Sheryll contested the role with Simon Hart MP (Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire) and Mark Spencer MP (Sherwood).

Congratulations to award winners

On Friday Sheryll Murray attended the Unlocking Cornish Potential awards in the Keay Theatre in St Austell. Sheryll made the award for 'Best Use of ICT'.  Since 2004, Unlocking Cornish Potential has worked with over 600 business owners by matching graduates with Cornish companies. They also help graduates develop employability skills, get work experience and, where appropriate, supported them in starting their own businesses.

Don’t let time flu by

Last week, in Parliament, Sheryll Murray MP paid to have a flu jab and encouraged others, especially those who qualify to have a free immunisation, to do so now.

On Saturday, local MP Sheryll Murray, joined volunteers in Fore Street as part of the Portas Clean Up Liskeard weekend. Projects included painting, planting and cleaning.

Tony Hogg pledges new incentives to boost recruitment of Police Specials

The Conservative Candidate to be Devon and Cornwall’s first Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Hogg, has praised the work of the force’s Special Constables and will look to recruit at least 200 more if he is elected on the 15th November. He has also pledged to increase the incentives on offer, calling for Devon and Cornwall to follow the example of the force in Hull, where Specials are offered a discount on their Council Tax bills. 

Model 'fitting tribute' to husband Neil

On Sunday Sheryll Murray attended a moving dedication ceremony to her late husband Neil as part of the thanksgiving service for the Harvest of the Sea. The service was conducted by Sheryll's sister-in law, Rev Jill Murray, at the Cawsand Congregational Church.

New Maritime Cadets welcomed in Saltash

Sheryll Murray MP was delighted to join Saltash Mayor Martin Gee at an open day for the newly formed Saltash Maritime Cadets. The cadets will offer young people aged 12-18 the opportunity to experience many activities including boating, sports, first aid, water safety and seamanship skills. They also hope to start up a group of junior cadets aged 10-12.

Police & Crime Commissioner impressed by Boxing Club

Police & Crime Commissioner Candidate Tony Hogg joined local South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray for a visit to find out the excellent work being carried out by Torpoint Boxing Club last week. Tony & Sheryll joined Chairman Mark White and the many younger members for their regular 'fun and fitness' session.

Volunteer sought at World Mental Health Day event

Sheryll Murray MP was delighted to catch up with old friends from her former workplace when she visited the Cornerstone Methodist Church in Torpoint with Community Health Around Torpoint (CHAT) on Friday morning to mark World Mental Health Day.  Hosted by the Friends of the Antony Road Surgery this coffee morning raised awareness of mental health issues and offered people the chance to talk to representatives of local mental health services and ask questions and express their opinions.

Sheryll Murray joins family affected by cancer to help raise funds

Sheryll Murray was delighted to support the Fundraising Raffle and event organised by Paul Bendelow, from St Cleer, last Friday. Paul and his wife Natalie wanted to do something to raise funds for MacMillian Cancer Care after a relative was diagnosed with a brain tumour. With over 100 prizes donated from local business the sum raised had already reached over £1000 before the event began.
