Following her election to the select committee for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs local MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to attend the Callington Young Farmers Annual Dinner Dance.
The election to the Committee was held following the promotion of colleague Amber Rudd MP who became the Private Parliamentary Secretary to George Osborne MP. Sheryll contested the role with Simon Hart MP (Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire) and Mark Spencer MP (Sherwood).
Following the Young Farmers event Sheryll said, "It was a delight to speak to Callington Young Farmers at their annual dinner and dance which was held at the Eliot House Hotel in Liskeard. After a superb meal, it was so good to hear about their fundraising and who had won the annual trophies for their various activities throughout the year. Thank you James Boundy and everyone for making me so welcome at what was a most enjoyable evening.
"I am so grateful for all of our young farmers and may need to call on their expertise over the next couple of years as I have now been elected to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee. My first meeting involved taking evidence from Rt Hon Owen Paterson, the newly appointed Secretary of State. It is such an honour to have been voted onto this committee by colleagues. I am really looking forward to my time engaging in enquiries that will have a great impact on our rural constituency. I have given evidence to the Committee in the past when they were engaging in enquiries about fisheries but this time it I will be asking the questions."
