Local MP Sheryll Murray joined youngsters in a park in Callington for their National Citizen Service.
The NCS is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds in England. It helps build skills for work and life, while youngsters take on new challenges and meet new friends whilst bringing together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication. They have the motto ‘It all starts with yes’.
The youngsters involved where at the time painting benches, play areas and clearing footpaths.
Sheryll said of her visit, “What a fantastic group of youngsters. It was a real pleasure to meet them and I would like to thank everyone involved for their work on this project. Not only did they do the work in the park but they also had to source the materials needed and I would like to thank all the local businesses who where so generous in donating to this worthwhile project. I was informed that in total around £200 of goods had been donated – thank you Callington.”
Sheryll explained, “In total there were around 8 groups across Cornwall and each had their own team name. I was very pleased to join team ‘Batman Jesus’ and thank them for their efforts.”
