South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray was pleased to see so many South East Cornwall firms win awards at the Royal Cornwall Show when she visited on Friday.
One of the winners, Cornish Gouda, won the new product Category. Cornish Guoda is run by youngster Giel Spierings. His family own a family run dairy farm in Lanreath producing high quality milk. Due to poor milk prices they were looking to improve the sustainability of their business by diversifying into the production of cheese, using the milk produced by their herd. Sheryll said, "Giel produces excellent cheese and this reward is very much deserved."
Nippers Shellfish from Looe earned a rosette for being the reserve winner for best newcomer to the show. On their first day they met with both the Princess Royal and the Fishing Minister Richard Benyon. Sheryll commented, "I have known Nippers for years and they produce fantastic shellfish. It was great to see them at the show."
Trewithen Dairy used the show to market their new twitter personality @TrewdyTheCow. Trewdy was certainly milking the opportunities by doing the rounds at the show as well as at their stall. Sheryll said, "It is important that local companies like Trewithen dairy make the most of marketing opportunities like the show. Trewithen is a fantastic success story in South East Cornwall employing many local people."
