It was back to school for MP Sheryll Murray on Friday as she visited Millbrook School, which she attended as a young girl, to hear about a new solar panel project. Sheryll was joined by Olympic medallist Annie Vernon to hear about the project which, through Solar Schools, hopes to raise £10,000 for solar panels for the school.
Head teacher Trevor Caves explains, "Millbrook School has started on an ambitious project to raise at least £10,000 to put solar panels on our roof. With already having support from local groups like the Rame Renewable Energy Group we really hope for this to be a community project that local people will want to support. If you can help us in any way it would be much appreciated - we are a small school and the solar panels will make a huge difference for us."
Sheryll commented, "This is exactly the type of green project which should be encouraged. It provides a fantastic opportunity to teach pupils about renewable energy and will give the school a much needed cushion against rising energy prices. It is also hoped that surplus energy, especially during the summer recess, will be able to raise additional funds for the school. I would encourage anyone who can to give to this very worthwhile project."
People can donate through the solar schools website at <http://www.solarschools.org.uk/millbrook/>http://www.solarschools.org.uk/millbrook/
or by buying vouchers at the Co-op or Widdicombe Fare in the village. There is also a clothes collection bin at the school.
Sheryll continued, "I was delighted to be joined by Olympic medal winner Annie Vernon and would like to take this opportunity to thank Annie for giving these young pupils the opportunity to see a real Olympic Medal. It was really good to hear her give the children the encouragement to take part in competitive sport at an early age."
