Sheryll Murray MP has welcomed today’s announcement that schools in South East Cornwall will receive extra funding per pupil of £54 from April 2015 as part of a £350 million increase in funding.
After consistently calling for the funding to be changed since May 2010, Sheryll is delighted that the Government has listened and recognised the unfairness of the system.
Sheryll said, “I am delighted that Secretary of State Michael Gove and Chancellor George Osborne recognised that the system of Education funding that we inherited was unfair, for too long, the school funding system has been based on historical data that was out of date and no longer reflected pupils’ needs.
“I hope that this extra money will make a real difference on the ground to the education of our children. Young people educated in Cornwall must have had excellent education to enable them to compete in what is a difficult marketplace. I hope this money will help enable our schools to provide this.”
