Sheryll Murray MP was pleased to meet Thomas Remnant who is the Safe Place Champ for Liskeard at her office in Windsor Place in the Town.
The Safe Place scheme is operated by Cornwall Council and describes itself as “The scheme helps people with learning disabilities deal with any incident that takes place whilst they are out and about in the community – for example harassment, bullying or maybe the person they are meeting fails to turn up. The idea is simple - stickers are issued to establishments that sign up to the scheme and the people with learning disabilities carry a card with emergency contact details on. The staff in the safe place venue will be able to assist anyone who goes to them for help.”
Sheryll said, “I am very proud that my office is a ‘safe place’ and would encourage other premises across the South East Cornwall constituency to sign up. Of course I hope that no-one will need a ‘safe place’ but am pleased so many are available should they be needed.”
