Sheryll Murray was pleased to join some of the around 30 Conservative MPs, who come from working class backgrounds, whose stories have been compiled by Sir David Amess in the booklet ‘The Party of Opportunity’ in Parliament.
The launch of the booklet provided an opportunity to hear from some of the MPs, including Sheryll, who are included in this second edition of the booklet and to hear why these working class men and women feel most at home in the Conservative Party. The aim of the booklet is to raise awareness about how the Conservative Party represents people from all aspects of society rather than just the elite as the opposition often try to stereotype.
Sheryll Murray said, “I would like to thank Sir David for compiling such a rich and interesting back story to the Conservative Party. I am proud of my Cornish heritage and my happy upbringing, albeit not a wealthy one. I would like to thank the Association of Conservative Clubs for their financial support of this project especially as we have three excellent local clubs in my constituency.”
Sir David Amess said, “My motivation for compiling this booklet was a response to those who portray the Conservative Party as elitist. Specifically I wanted to combat the false impression that is given about the background of Conservatives of Parliament. I would like to thank all the MPs who contributed to this booklet, helping to demonstrate that the Conservative Party appeals to, and benefits, people from all walks of life.”
