Sheryll Murray MP was pleased to join pupils and teachers, new and old, to celebrate 50 years of Torpoint Community College at its current site. The site, which was opened in 1963, has been since expanded including a new art block which was opened by Rt Hon Margaret Thatcher in 1973 when Sheryll herself was a pupil.
At the celebration Sheryll was joined by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Colnel Bolitho, Torpoint Mayor Mike Pearn, Chair of Governors Colin Parton, Headteacher Andrea Hazeldine and pupils.
Sheryll met with teachers who had taught her and met with some old school friends.
Following the event Sheryll said, “It was a brilliant event and it was so good to meet with so many old friends and teachers. I was a bit nervous that Mr English, my old physics teacher, would still be after the homework which is now well overdue but everyone was very friendly.
“I would like to thank all the staff over the years for their dedication and hard work. Torpoint College set me up for adult life and I have so many happy memories of those days. Having visited the school before as the local MP I am pleased that, with Andrea Hazeldine at the helm, the institution seems to be going from strength to strength.”
