Local MP Sheryll Murray celebrated English Tourism Week by visiting Seaview Holiday Village in Polperro to find out the local issues affecting the park and the wider industry which is so important to the constituency.
English Tourism Week which is promoted by Visit England, is a week-long celebration of the tourism industry. Tourism is the third largest employer acroos England, every day supporting 2.6 million jobs and is a major employer of school leavers and young people. The visitor economy is worth £106bn a year to England supporting thousands of businesses and suppliers.
During a tour of the park, General Manager Richard Jones highlighted how the business has spent almost £800,000 in two years to add new pitches for modern static caravan holiday homes, improve infrastructure, refurbish chalets and build a crazy golf course. He explained how the Seaview Holiday Park team creates food packs from holidaymakers' leftover packets and tins, with around 200 meals delivered to the Liskeard & Looe Foodbank last year.
Richard Jones said, “We were delighted that Sheryll Murray MP was able to visit during English Tourism Week and see the improvements we have made over the past couple of years. Holidaymakers have been delighted with our development, and we are looking ahead to a record-breaking year for bookings in 2017. When we realised that to save boot space guests were leaving unopened food in their caravan after their holiday, we wanted to find a suitable outlet for passing on the goods to people in need. Liskeard & Looe Foodbank does an amazing job to support local people in crisis.”
Following her visit Sheryll said, “I would like to thank Richard and his team for a warm welcome at the park. The Park has fantastic views over Talland Bay and fantastic facilities. It was clear that there was ongoing investment in the park which hopefully will result in more jobs for the local community. It is also good to see a local business really working with the local community for mutual benefit. It was also good to share a number of ideas with him.”
