Local MP Sheryll Murray MP went to Seaton today following flooding elsewhere and found a collapsed wall and flooded cafe.
The sea wall had collapsed after very high tides had washed away its foundations. The sea wall has been cordoned off following safety concerns. One local resident recounted to Sheryll how she had walked along the wall with her dog at 6.15am and when she looked back from the cafe just before 8am saw that it had collapsed.
Sheryll also visited the cafe and found many local residents helping mop up following the sea and spoke to the cafe owner.
Sheryll said, “I was surprised to see this fairly new sea defence collapse and will be calling to see what foundations were used.
“I felt terribly sorry for the cafe but was impressed by the amount of local people helping out this important local business. It was heartening to see a local community work together in this way – something I have seen during other flooding incidents which makes me so proud of the people I represent.”
