Local MP Sheryll Murray accompanied local Councillors and staff in wearing her lifejacket to work to encourage safety on the water. They all took part in the international Ready, Set, Wear it campaign which has events in several countries around the world.
South East Cornwall Councillors Bernie Ellis, Olive Eggleston and Russell Bartlett joined Sheryll and her staff as Summer approaches and many people in Cornwall are thinking about getting out on their boats. The campaign aims to show how lifejackets can be shown to be easily worn in every day life.
Sheryll, who is a member of the Fishing Industry Safety Group, said of the campaign, “It is important that we all show the importance of lifejackets in sea safety. Even the best swimmer can bang their head and wearing one can make all the difference. I would encourage anyone on the water, be it someone who works for living or just a person who is enjoying their leisure time, to wear a lifejacket and I fully support the aims of this campaign.”
