Local MP Sheryll Murray joined Cornwall Air Ambulance Chief Executive Paula Martin and Minister Rob Wilson MP to celebrate the news that Cornwall Air Ambulance have received £1 million from Libor Fines to contribute towards a new generation Air Ambulance helicopter.
Cornwall Air Ambulance explains their work by saying, “Taking to the skies in 1987, Cornwall Air Ambulance was the first air ambulance in the UK. It has now completed re than 26,000 missions, saving countless lives. Cornwall Air Ambulance is on scene on average in just 12 minutes in mainland Cornwall and less than 30 minutes on the Isles of Scilly. The paramedic aircrew provide pre-hospital critical care at the scene of the incident and can go on to fly the patient to specialist hospital units in Cornwall, Devon or Bristol and even as far as Swansea.”
Banks have now paid out hundreds of millions of pounds of fines to the Government as a result of the rate-rigging scandal. The then Chancellor George Osborne explained last year, "It is absolutely right that we use funds from those who demonstrated the worst values to reward those who demonstrate the best."
In a statement Sheryll Murray MP said, “This was fantastic news from last week’s Autumn Statement which can be used by this fantastic service to save lives. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team at Cornwall Air Ambulance for all the work that they do.”
