Local MP Sheryll Murray has been promoted within her Party to the position of Parliamentary Private Secretary to Ed Vaizey MP in his role as Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy.
Parliament describes a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) as appointed by a minister to be his or her assistant. He or she is selected from backbench MPs as the 'eyes and ears' of the minister in the House of Commons. It is an unpaid job but it is useful for an MP to become a PPS to gain experience of working in government.
Ed Vaizey MP is a Minister of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. His responsibilities include; digital economy strategy, cyber security, telecoms resilience, digital infrastructure, culture, media, creative industries, digital single market, digital entrepreneurship, future technologies, digital skills and cyber business strategic relationship management.
Following her appointment Sheryll said, “I am very honoured to be given this government role but can assure constituents that this will not deflect me from what I consider to be my primary role in Parliament which is to represent the views of the people of South East Cornwall.”
